N\u00eb koh\u00ebn e tij, Durr\u00ebsi u b\u00eb nj\u00eb nga qytetet m\u00eb t\u00eb fortifikuara t\u00eb brigjeve t\u00eb Adriatikut, dhe kalaja ishte e treta p\u00ebr nga madh\u00ebsia pas asaj t\u00eb Stambollit (Kostandinopoj\u00ebs) dhe Selanikut gjat\u00eb periudh\u00ebs bizantine,.<br>P\u00ebr nd\u00ebrtimin e mureve t\u00eb k\u00ebsaj kalaje jan\u00eb p\u00ebrdorur rreth 15 milion\u00eb tulla, duke krijuar rreth 40 kulla mbrojt\u00ebse. Kjo b\u00ebri q\u00eb perimetri i mureve t\u00eb arrij\u00eb n\u00eb nj\u00eb gjat\u00ebsi prej 4,4 km dhe nj\u00eb gjer\u00ebsi prej 3,4 m.<br>Kalaja ishte e fortifikuar me kulla vrojtimi t\u00eb nd\u00ebrtuara nga Republika e Venedikut dhe nga anzhuin\u00ebt, duke theksuar k\u00ebshtu r\u00ebnd\u00ebsin\u00eb strategjike dhe rolin mbrojt\u00ebs t\u00eb Durr\u00ebsit n\u00eb k\u00ebt\u00eb periudh\u00eb historike.
